About The Position

Take the lead in shaping safer, more efficient, and more connected communities across Atlantic Canada. As our Traffic Engineering Lead in Dartmouth, you will provide technical leadership, project delivery oversight, and people leadership for a growing traffic engineering practice serving municipal, provincial, and private-sector clients. Your expertise will influence transportation networks, guide multidisciplinary teams, strengthen client relationships, and support transportation solutions that improve mobility for the communities we serve.

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with a focus on transportation or traffic engineering.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer, or eligible for P.Eng. designation with Engineers Nova Scotia.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in transportation or traffic engineering, including technical leadership, project management, and mentoring or supervision of technical staff.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic, traffic operations analysis, signalized and unsignalized intersection analysis, and related traffic engineering methodologies.
  • Experience applying AutoCAD, Civil 3D, AutoTURN, and related tools to support site plan review, concept design, and transportation facility assessments.
  • Experience reviewing technical deliverables, providing constructive feedback, and supporting quality assurance across transportation engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of transportation planning and traffic engineering guidelines, including TAC guidance, municipal standards, and provincial requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, support staff development, and build strong working relationships with clients, road authorities, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for transportation and traffic engineering studies, including scope, schedule, budget, technical quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Act as a primary technical contact for clients, project managers, road authorities, and internal disciplines on traffic engineering assignments.
  • Lead traffic operations assessments using Synchro, SimTraffic, and other appropriate analysis tools.
  • Lead the development and interpretation of traffic volumes, trip generation, distribution, assignment, and future horizon analyses to suit the context of each study.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate traffic operations results, technical findings, risks, and recommendations to clients, agencies, and project teams.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams of transportation and traffic engineers, planners, designers, and technicians to assess transportation, traffic, transit, active transportation, and parking conditions.
  • Provide technical direction, mentoring, workload planning, performance feedback, and quality review for junior and intermediate staff.
  • Lead the preparation and senior review of graphics, technical memoranda, reports, proposals, and presentations that clearly communicate technical results and recommendations.
