About The Position

WSP is seeking an Experienced Professional, Traffic Engineer for their Herndon, VA or Richmond, VA Office. This role is crucial for growing the Traffic Engineering practice, focusing on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)/Traffic Engineering design, signal timing, traffic analysis, and traffic studies. The position reports to the Lead Traffic Engineer and will involve serving as a project engineer or task manager, with the expectation of moving into Project Management roles within two to three years. The successful candidate will work on VDOT Signal Timing, ITS/Signal Design, and Operational Improvements projects, traffic safety, and traffic engineering projects for local governments. Opportunities may also extend to out-of-state design-build or other traffic engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior traffic design experience.
  • Engineering Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) designation.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, process, and design/build related to traffic control equipment, capacity and operational analysis, project management, and related communications systems.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Power Point (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, and other applicable design software packages (preferred).
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering and planning software such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, ArcGIS (preferred)
  • Project experience - Traffic operations and safety, signal design, signal timing, ITS design, DOT experience (preferred)
