About The Position

HDR is seeking a Traffic Engineer to serve as a project manager or task leader for traffic engineering projects. This role involves preparing scopes, budgets, and schedules, as well as creating plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) documents for various state and local agencies. The engineer will also develop traffic studies, write reports, coordinate with subconsultants, perform quality control reviews, provide construction support, conduct field visits, and mentor junior staff. Participation in recruitment efforts is also expected.

Requirements

  • A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 3 years of experience in traffic engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 5 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • Experience must include: traffic analysis, traffic engineering/design, and construction support.
  • Detailed hands-on experience conducting traffic design using MicroStation, AutoCAD, AGi32, and GuideSign software.
  • Detailed hands-on experience conducting operational analysis using HCS, Synchro, and VISSIM.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Possible travel of 3 days or less within Oregon for project needs once or twice per year.
  • Possible travel of 3 days or less within the US or Canada for conferences once per year.

  • Professional Engineer licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a project manager or task leader for traffic engineering projects.
  • Prepare or review scopes, budgets, and schedules for traffic engineering projects.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) documents including signing and striping, traffic signals, illumination, and Intelligent Traffic Systems for various state and local agencies.
  • Develop traffic studies that may include traffic impact analyses, corridor studies, access management studies, historic/predictive safety analysis, traffic signal timing plans, microscopic simulation modeling, and macroscopic simulation modeling.
  • Write reports and technical memorandums.
  • Coordinate with subconsultants to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Complete project quality control reviews and technical detail checks.
  • Provide design support during construction.
  • Conduct field visits to collect data for scoping or designing projects.
  • Direct and mentor junior engineers and technical staff as needed including workload management and technical direction.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts and interview panels.
