About The Position

RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Engineer to join their highly successful traffic group in their Baltimore, Maryland office. This role involves working alongside and collaborating closely with a large team of traffic engineers and transportation professionals. The Traffic Engineer will perform traffic analyses and develop traffic engineering designs to improve transportation systems throughout the region. Projects focus on improving operations and safety for motorized and non-motorized modes of travel, providing healthy and livable communities, and implementing technology-based transportation improvements. Under the supervision of a professional engineer, the role involves performing traffic engineering tasks including transportation safety evaluations, traffic operations analyses, and traffic control device design. Support will be provided for projects ranging from small-scale studies and designs for isolated intersections to complex solutions for urban arterial networks and major highway systems. The role will utilize microsimulation tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic and VISSIM to plan, visualize & analyze traffic-related projects. The Traffic Engineer will prepare design plans for a wide range of traffic control devices including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS). Additionally, the role requires preparing high-quality technical reports, presentations, and design plans, and communicating technical information to non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Strong writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam OR have the ability to take and pass the FE exam within 12 months of employment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with Traffic or Transportation focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in Traffic or Transportation Engineering.
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Exposure to traffic related software (HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, VISSIM).
  • Exposure to MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with MS Word/Excel/Access.

Responsibilities

  • Perform traffic engineering tasks including transportation safety evaluations, traffic operations analyses, and traffic control device design.
