About The Position

This position is within the Traffic Services Division of the Public Works Department and will be used to fill a current vacancy. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement. The role involves technical work under general supervision, recommending solutions to traffic control problems through routine reports. Key responsibilities include monitoring traffic counts, conducting onsite inspections, explaining ordinances, assessing data, and formulating recommendations. The analyst will handle citizen inquiries, requests, and complaints, maintain documentation, and may review the work of Traffic Data Collectors. Assignments come from supervisors or the public, requiring initiative and discretion. Work is reviewed by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and ability to perform specialized or complex traffic studies and field inspections
  • Knowledge of City Codes and Ordinances and State Traffic Control regulations
  • Skill in following verbal and written instructions
  • Skill in recording information accurately
  • Ability to communicate verbally using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to compile, assess and work accurately with large quantities of traffic data
  • Ability to draw basic field diagrams
  • Ability to interpret and apply City Codes and Ordinances and State Traffic Control regulations to work performed
  • Ability to maintain accurate files of traffic data transactions
  • Ability to write reports and other correspondence based on field inspections or data assessed
  • Possession of a valid driver license (Operator)

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring traffic count activities

  • Assessing large quantities of data and formulating recommendations according to established standards, policies, and guidelines
  • Responding to a majority of traffic-related citizen inquiries, requests and complaints
  • Maintaining accurate documentation for all actions taken
  • Reviewing work performed by the Traffic Data Collectors for content and accuracy
  • Exercising considerable initiative and discretion when dealing with traffic control problems
