About The Position

This position falls under the Traffic Division of the Transportation Department and reports to the Traffic Operations Analyst. The primary function of this position is conducting vehicular traffic counts at signalized intersections. Work may also involve conducting other types of traffic studies or related efforts as directed by supervision. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and ability to remain focused for extended periods of time are necessary qualities for this position. This employee must exercise some independence as the employee travels between assigned worksites and completes assignments at each site. This is a part-time position which requires less than 1,000 work hours per calendar year. The work schedule for this position is from 7 am to 7 pm (including breaks) with work potentially occurring any day of the week. Typically, traffic counts are conducted two days a week on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of computing and calculation techniques to effectively manage data and tasks.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to relay information clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrates tact, courtesy, and professionalism when interacting with the public.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and execute tasks efficiently.
  • Provide detailed and timely reports to supervisors regarding observations and task outcomes.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License
  • Applicant to provide own properly working vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Accurately count vehicles at signalized intersections for each turning movement during designated time frames (AM peak, off-peak, noon lunch hour, and PM peak) for a total of 8 hours.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support traffic monitoring and control operations.
