City Rise Utility- Traffic Control Trainee: Bakersfield
About The Position
City Rise Utility Traffic Control provides high-quality traffic control safety services for utility contractors, including flagging traffic, managing lane closures, and detouring traffic to prevent accidents and congestion. The Traffic Control Technician Trainee will work under an experienced technician, directing traffic around work zones for utility construction crews. This role is crucial for protecting customers, motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and themselves on the roadway. The position requires flexibility in availability due to peak and slow seasons, with a slow season beginning in late fall. Employees are members of the IBEW Union, and union membership is required (enrollment facilitation is available).
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license for at least 3 years with a clean driving record.
- Current IBEW membership with Trainee classification.
- Ability to recognize dangers using hearing and vision, being fully engaged and alert of their surroundings.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and take safe action to avoid serious injuries.
- Ability to understand traffic signals/signs, traffic plans and customer requests.
- Ability to communicate with customers, the public, and team members.
- Reliable Transportation with ability to commute throughout Northern California.
- Punctuality, time management and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- English- read and write fluently.
- Frequent lifting of heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
- Lift, carry, push, pull and assemble traffic control materials in the proper order to manage work zone traffic.
- Stand for long periods of time in various weather conditions, and different times of day/night.
- Stooping for prolonged periods of time.
- Dexterity in the use of hand and fingers.
- Reaching, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing and Vision (up close, at a distance, along the periphery).

- Flagging one year preferred.
- ATSSA Flagger Certification required.
- First Aid/CPR Certification required.

- Drive company trucks as needed.
- Keep equipment in trucks well organized and in working order.
- Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup and professional Flagging responsibilities.
- Provide clear direction to customers and the general public moving or traveling around a work zone.
- Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
- Maintain a quick pace and follow direction.
- Provide the highest level of customer service, including on-time arrival and well-managed work zones.
