About The Position

The Traffic Control Technician provides responsible technical duties in support of the activities and services of the traffic engineering division, including installing and maintaining traffic control signs and markings, performing field maintenance services, sign design, sign fabrication, inventory control, and traffic counting; and to provide technical support to the traffic engineering division.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A Commercial Drivers license within six-months of hire.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, IMSA Work Zone and Level I or II Signs and Markings certification within one year of appointment.
  • IMSA Level I Signals.
  • Pass a background check, post-offer physical and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Education supplemented by specialized training in sign design and fabrication, sign installation, sign field maintenance, traffic control requirements, or a related field.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience in sign installation, sign field maintenance or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Completing data entry and various forms to document work completed, equipment and/or supplies used.
  • Assisting with traffic counting via equipment and manual counts.
  • Responding to emergency call out situations.
  • Installing temporary control devices.
  • Removing and installing signage in all types of weather.
  • Assisting with directing traffic in emergencies.
  • Being on-call on a rotating basis.
