About The Position

Join D&J Construction Company and build your career with on-the-job training. Prior experience preferred but not required. The Traffic Control Flagger oversees and maintains safe and efficient traffic patterns around construction zones. This role involves implementing and monitoring traffic control measures, equipment handling, and collaborating closely with construction crews to ensure safety and compliance at job sites. This role will also work as a laborer, with construction crews when instructed. Those responsible are also listed below.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Valid email address for communication.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and hot temperatures, handling physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Capable of safely lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Prior traffic control or flagging experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate company trucks safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge and experience with traffic control measures, devices, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Work hours primarily daytime shifts (10-12 hours) with occasional night shifts as required by projects.
  • Some weekend and overtime work may be necessary.
  • Must be comfortable working in high-traffic and active construction zones.
  • Perform a wide variety of construction-related activities.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality and ability to work flexible shifts, including occasional nights and weekends.
  • Ability to remain standing for the majority of the shift.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and repairs on traffic control equipment.
  • Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or other senior crew members.
  • Prior asphalt experience is preferred.
  • Participate in all phases of highway construction.
  • Prepare and clean up job sites.
  • Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and brooms.
  • Potential training in traffic control management.
  • Potential operation of power tools such as jackhammers, earth tampers, and pavement breakers.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and oversee traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, signs, arrow boards, and temporary traffic lights.
  • Operate company vehicles and equipment to transport traffic control materials to and from job sites.
  • Monitor and adjust traffic patterns and control measures as necessary.
  • Report any incidents or safety concerns promptly to supervisors.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance to ensure all items remain in proper working condition.
  • Collaborate with construction crew members and supervisors to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs of traffic control equipment in the shop as needed.
  • Execute tasks according to temporary traffic control plans and flagging operations.
  • Control and monitor flagging stations effectively to ensure pedestrian and vehicle safety.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to daily tasks and project activities.
  • Participate in all phases of highway construction.
  • Prepare and clean up job sites.

  • Potential training in traffic control management.
