DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports safer transportation by applying traffic control standards, reviewing roadway conditions, and evaluating safety-related data across the district. Your work will entail conducting investigations, analyzing reports, and helping implement improvements that support the department goal of zero fatalities.

Requirements

  • One year as a Traffic Control Specialist Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years as a Traffic Control Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • One year of experience in traffic control work; and a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, civil engineering, or a closely related field; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Review crash reports, complete field investigations, and identify safety concerns that require improvement
  • Manage tort and small claims programs while preparing information for legal and evaluation staff
  • Conduct engineering studies to assess traffic control needs and document results using required publications and forms
  • Use CDART and other tools to analyze crash history for requested routes and locations
  • Determine annual skid testing needs and coordinate testing schedules with relevant units
  • Assist with district business plan goals by completing assigned tasks and developing recommended actions
