About The Position

Support a transportation system that serves communities with pride! The Department of Transportation is seeking a Traffic Control Specialist who is ready to contribute to safe and reliable travel across the region. This position offers the chance to play a key part in designing and reviewing important traffic control strategies. You will be involved in projects that enhance roadway safety and guide public movement. This position focuses on technical work that supports safe and effective traffic control throughout the district. You will assist with plans, reviews, studies and programs that guide roadway safety and traffic flow.

Requirements

• One year as a Traffic Control Specialist Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Two years as a Traffic Control Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• One year of experience in traffic control work; and a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, civil engineering, or a closely related field
• An equivalent combination of experience and training
• Meet the PA residency requirement
• Be able to perform essential job functions

Responsibilities

• Examine and recommend approval for consultant and in house traffic control designs
• Conduct or assist in training programs related to work zone traffic control
• Prepare and review pavement marking and signing plans for compliance with regulations
• Review accident and reflectometer data to advise engineers on needed corrections
• Support district pavement marking and paint programs through studies, layouts and evaluations
