Incumbents in this class perform technical and professional traffic engineering work in both the office and field environments. Incumbents perform a variety of duties including field investigations, data collection, data analysis, plan review, engineering design, coordination with contractors, consultants, and Town staff, and communication with the public. The primary focus of the position is in the area of traffic control plan review. This is a professional, journey-level classification in the engineering job family. Work involves the application of sound technical principles and best practices associated with planning, diagnosis, troubleshooting and problem solving. Incumbents demonstrate specific knowledge, follow established practices and processes, and perform varied assignments in traffic engineering. The Traffic Engineering Analyst is distinguished from the Traffic Engineer by the performance of less complex professional-level projects without the requirement of a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
