About The Position

SMBC Capital Markets, Inc. (CM) is a derivatives trading company which was started in 1888 and is based in New York City, with offices in London and Hong Kong. SMBC CM is an established derivatives dealer with a broad product portfolio, with specific emphasis on interest rates and foreign exchange products such as interest & FX swaps, FRAs, options, exotic products, commodity derivatives as well as exchange traded products such as treasury bonds, interest rate futures & options, currency futures, treasury futures & options, etc. The Trading Risk & Control group in Capital Markets is seeking a highly motivated candidate who wants to begin their career in an interest rate derivative trading floor. This Analyst position is part of the trading group and coverage includes products in all major currencies which will provides unique opportunities to learn all aspects of trading interest rate derivatives. Given the small size of the trading group, you will be working on a wide-range of derivatives simultaneously, such as swaps, options, FX and credit products.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Master’s Degree in Financial Engineering, Finance, Computer Science or related quantitative/analytical field with a minimum 2+ years of work experience in financial services
  • Excellent communication skills with good teamwork and a strong work ethic.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and constant accountability
  • Comfortable with Excel and VBA
  • Knowledge of Fixed Income

Responsibilities

  • Daily input of market parameters like swap rates, spreads, cap/floor and swaption vols, prices of exchange traded securities of more than 25 currencies required for the daily valuation of the derivatives portfolio.
  • Daily valuation of the CM derivatives portfolio, including production of greeks, mark to markets, and pnl attribution.
  • Validate the accuracy of all market input parameters used for revaluation.
  • Communicate with middle office regarding trade reconciliation issues.
  • Accurately book all CM derivate trades in respective trading systems.
  • Conduct daily risk and PL analysis and report to Senior Management.
  • Build ad-hoc tools and analysis for traders to help management of derivative portfolio.
  • Support the rollout of new products and trading strategies.
