About The Position

MSL Climate is the environmental markets division of McGill St-Laurent. We operate across regulated and voluntary carbon markets, helping clients navigate complex environmental products while developing internal trading and market strategies. We are building a team at the intersection of market analysis, quantitative research, and commercial execution, with a clear objective: develop future Carbon Traders from within. You will work closely with and report to the Senior Compliance Carbon Trader, gaining direct exposure to market analysis, strategy development, and commercial execution. As an Analyst, you will play a key role in developing market expertise, building trading strategies, and supporting revenue generation, with the goal of progressing to a Junior Carbon Trader role.

Requirements

  • Strong academic background (Finance, Engineering, Economics, or related field)
  • Proven experience with data cleaning, analysis, and time-series handling and statistical modelling.
  • Ability to quickly absorb complex information and deliver relevant analysis in context.
  • Solid understanding of financial modelling, forecasting, optimization, and derivatives markets.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Python & SQL
  • High ownership mindset: autonomy and a strong problem-solving attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment
  • Excellent communication skill
  • Bilingual (French & English)
  • Based in Montreal

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and improvement of derivatives trading strategies
  • Conduct deep-dive analyses of regulated carbon programs globally
  • Identify and analyze market opportunities and inefficiencies
  • Perform quantitative research, backtesting, and performance analysis
  • Analyze risk and return profiles of new and existing strategies
  • Build, maintain, and improve: Pricing models, Forecasting tools and Scenario analysis frameworks.
  • Develop tools to support trading decision-making
  • Produce and monitor risk indicators
  • Create simple dashboards and reports to track trading activity and risk exposure
  • Clean, structure, and automate: Market data, Internal datasets
  • Optimize reporting workflows using Python and Excel
  • Write and publish a weekly newsletter on regulated carbon markets
  • Develop a profitable trading strategy
  • Conduct deep dives on specific market segments
  • Contribute directly to team P&L generation
