About The Position

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Supports the Continuous Improvement philosophy of the Operations Division and complies with the OD Safety Program to include all safety and health rules, regulations, and operating policies and procedures. Complies with all attendance policies and guidelines. Maintains vehicle, tools, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe condition. Operates vehicles including pickups, trucks, and vans. Secures vehicle, equipment, and areas of operation. Attends scheduled meetings and training as required to maintain technical skills and qualifications. Provides after hours overtime work as required. Participates in emergency call-back roster on a rotating basis. Maintains professional personal appearance. Maintains records of materials and labor expended for each project or job assignment. Assesses job or project material requirements and prepares requisition for materials from supply warehouse or vendor. Mixes and matches paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac, or other finishes. Refinishes and restores interior and exterior painted surfaces including modifications or alterations to buildings. Refinishes furniture, cabinets, shelves, table tops, and other furnishings. Performs painting tasks including preparation of various types of surfaces by scraping, sanding, cleaning, applying paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac, or other finishes. Advises shop foreperson on job or project status and operational problems. Trains personnel in the apprenticeship training program and temporary laborers on job-related maintenance tasks. Completes other tasks as assigned by shop foreman.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Eligibility to drive TTU vehicles.
  • Valid U.S. driver license.
  • Two years of driving experience.
