About The Position

This is a vacant full-time position for a Tradesperson – Mechanic at the Middleton Bus Garage. The role involves performing major bus maintenance checks and repairs on various bus systems, including diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, brakes, exhaust systems, electrical, and auxiliary equipment. The Mechanic will be responsible for identifying repair needs, performing repairs and preventive maintenance in accordance with provincial laws, and ensuring all work meets trade standards. The position requires a strong understanding of safety procedures and practices, and the ability to maintain a clean and safe work area.

Requirements

Experience in repairs and operations of school buses including, but not limited to, repair of diesel engines, airbrakes, power train, transmissions, fuel systems, cooling systems, steering electrical, suspension systems, welding tasks
Experience with engine, transmission, brakes and diagnostic computer software required
Broad knowledge of safety procedures and practices required
Strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution
Strong written and oral communication skills
Motor Vehicle Repair (Truck and Transport) Mechanic License required
A Class 2B license with air brake endorsement required

Nice To Haves

Three years’ experience in trade preferred

Responsibilities

Completing major bus maintenance checks and repairs to diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, brakes, exhaust systems, electrical and auxiliary equipment, etc.
Identifying repair and or replacement needs
Performing repairs and preventive maintenance within the Laws of the Province of Nova Scotia
Performing preventative maintenance tasks including oil changes and grease jobs
Ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards
Keep a clean safe work area
