About The Position

The purpose of the Trades Technician class is to maintain City buildings, facilities, grounds, and irrigation systems. This role is responsible for the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of facilities including electrical, carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and outdoor structures and fixtures. The position also involves completing logs, forms, and reports, and ensuring the efficient maintenance of City parks. The Trades Technician works under general supervision, deciding how and when to perform tasks according to established procedures.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
A minimum of four years of job-related experience.
Good working knowledge of plumbing – repairs and maintenance.
Good working knowledge of HVAC preventative maintenance.
Good working knowledge of electrical troubleshooting/minor repairs.
Valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record.
Special skills or equipment certification may be required.

Responsibilities

Inspects or monitors the condition of buildings, structures, fixtures, equipment, and outside structures for needed maintenance or repairs.
Initiates installation, modification, construction, maintenance, or repair actions in response to inspections or work orders related to plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
Estimates materials and determines necessary tools, support equipment, or other items for a job; secures needed items and transports them to the job site.
Performs indoor maintenance, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical repairs, and fixture moving or repair.
Performs outdoor maintenance, including concrete work, painting, roof replacement or repairs, and structure or fixture repair.
Assists other departments or offices with maintenance tasks.
Maintains job-related forms such as logs, activity reports, and material reports.
Operates a wide variety of maintenance equipment.
Works in adverse weather conditions.
Works independently or with other staff.
Effectively communicates and deals with the public.
