About The Position

The Trades Technician – HVAC/Kitchen Equipment position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of all dining facility equipment, while also supporting HVAC operations across all athletic venues. This position performs preventive maintenance and completes work orders aimed at extending the lifecycle and operational efficiency of kitchen and HVAC equipment. Additionally, the technician serves as the primary liaison for the department’s partnerships with Chartwells and Levy, ensuring effective coordination and support of dining and facility operations. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • At least 4 or more years of experience in HVAC system maintenance, repair or installation experience
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Knowledge of CMMS/Work Order system usage, mobile technology
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office Programs including email and spreadsheets
  • Knowledge of compliance with EPA regulations regarding refrigerant handling and disposal
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting system malfunctions, leaks, and inefficiencies
  • Skilled in replacing filters, belts, motors, and other system components as needed
  • Skilled in calibrating thermostats, sensors, and control systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Ability to install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers and fume hoods
  • Ability to perform scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment
  • Ability to follow university safety protocols and OSHA guidelines when handling equipment and hazardous materials
  • Ability to respond promptly to HVAC-related service requests and emergency calls
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or associate degree in HVAC technology, mechanical systems, or a related field
  • Class B HVAC License
  • EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants (Type I, II, or Universal)
  • Additional HVAC certifications (e.g., NATE, Class A HVAC License)
  • Experience with commercial, hydronic systems
