About The Position

Under general supervision, performs skilled work at the journey person level in preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, diagnostic repair, alterations and installations of electrical, electro-mechanical, control and communications systems and equipment. This role involves performing duties normally required in the electrical trade, such as preventive and breakdown maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, calibration, and installation as an Instrumentation and Controls Electrician across the university campus. The individual will work from oral and written instructions, complying with regulatory codes and work orders. They will respond to trouble calls and emergencies, both during and outside normal work hours, and correct electrical deficiencies. The position requires maintaining accurate records, creating as-built documentation, ensuring a clean and safe workplace, and communicating effectively with various stakeholders. The Electrician is responsible for the correct use and safekeeping of assigned vehicle, materials, tools, and equipment, and must stay current with trade maintenance concepts and technology.

Requirements

A trade certification to a journeyperson level as a Red Seal Electrician or Industrial Electrician
A valid class 5 BC driver’s license
Perfect eyesight with respect to color blindness
A minimum five years of related experience

Demonstrated experience in good client relationship skills
Solid verbal and written communication skills are mandatory
Must continually improve operation of new and existing equipment
Keep current with trade maintenance concepts, technology, theory and maintain familiarity with manufacturer s and regulatory maintenance requirements
Ensure personal protective equipment is used at all times where required
Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety legislation, guidelines, standards, policies, procedures and practices
Responsible for performing the work in the safest manner possible
May be required to work various shifts including days, evenings and weekends
Willing and able to respond at short notice to Emergency Calls outside working hours

Nice To Haves

Certification as an Instrumentation and Controls Technician
Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, sketches of work required and maintenance manuals
A working knowledge of relevant industrial safety regulations and building codes

Responsibilities

Performs duties normally required in the electrical trade (for which training and expertise has previously been acquired) such as: preventive and breakdown maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, calibration and installation as an Instrumentation and Controls Electrician across the university campus.
Works from oral and written instructions from immediate supervisor (s).
Performs all duties as instructed in compliance with applicable regulatory codes and regulations and in accordance with work orders, drawings, documents and time schedules.
Responds to Trouble Calls and emergencies, both during and outside normal work hours, along with correcting electrical deficiencies brought forward by tenants through the service request program.
Provides accurate and complete information (on the status of equipment and systems) when completing time cards, work orders, preventative maintenance reports and test-inspection reports.
Maintains concise record management for the department as approved by supervisor (s).
Creates and submits as-build documentation once each work task is complete.
Ensures that the workplace is clean and safe while following safe work practices.
Communicates with customers, tenants, managers and coworkers as required to ensure the efficient delivery of service.

Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, distribution equipment, appliances, apparatus, fixtures or other components, using hand tools, power tools and various test instruments, to ensure compatibility and safety of the electrical system.
Diagnoses causes of Electrical Distribution and Electrical problems or failures in assigned systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems to be repaired.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
Install, maintain, repair and test hydraulic and pneumatic electrical control systems.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair electrical drive systems, automation systems and equipment, robotic systems and electronic control systems and devices as well as microprocessor-based (PLC) systems.
Install, maintain and troubleshoot emergency stand-by systems, heating, ventilation and climate control systems.
Calibrate instrumentation devices using specialized test equipment and software.
Install and maintain, repair automated equipment and robotic systems.
Performs related duties as required.
