About The Position

The trading desk manages order and information flows for the Americas, trading fixed income, equity, and linked instruments including derivatives, futures, and ETFs on behalf of client portfolios. The desk is responsible for actively covering fund managers with valuable market insights to aid portfolio positioning and management.

Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in equities and fixed income trading.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the investment industry, ideally supporting a team of investment professionals.
  • Relevant multi-asset trading experience specific to Canadian, US, and Latam markets.
  • Ability to utilize algorithmic technologies and industry platforms to execute investors cash and derivative order flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and effectively negotiate with industry participants on behalf of the firm.
  • Ability to develop, action, and oversee best execution processes relevant to varying market conditions.
  • Ability to assess relative value within country and sector opportunities.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in the investment process.
  • Credibility, communication skills, and professional presence to mentor Fidelity staff and interact effectively with investment professionals at all levels.
  • Ability to manage department priorities, work under pressure, and demonstrate a commitment to Fidelity.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting investors in all aspects of the investment process, including idea generation and implementation in the Americas markets.
  • Assessing market risks and costs while operating within applicable external and internal regulations and guidelines.
  • Partnering with FCIM senior management to support strategic firm initiatives and client engagements.
  • Providing back-up support to the Head of Trading in department oversight functions and critical department functions including Content Creation, Syndication, and Execution Technologies.
  • Providing the Investment Team with best-in-class market intelligence to highlight short to medium-term portfolio impacts.
  • Supporting Fidelity sector analysts in their covered portfolio holdings by identifying liquidity opportunities, underappreciated micro & macro forces, positioning dynamics, regulatory impacts, and cross-asset moves.
  • Mentoring Fidelity staff to ensure consistency of service and foster department team culture.
  • Proactively partnering with internal compliance, middle office, and settlements management to examine investment processes and minimize operational risk.
  • Developing and managing key industry relationships for Fidelity stakeholders.
  • Working closely with Product Teams and Channel Partners to support the development and launch of product initiatives.
  • Managing credit and equity cash, synthetic, and derivative order flows in line with the Global Best Execution Policy.
  • Assisting management in vetting and implementing emerging execution technologies.
  • Leveraging trade data and technologies to improve department processes, reduce costs, and mitigate risk.
  • Consulting Portfolio Managers on optimal trading strategies.
  • Introducing new investment instrument opportunities for fund management.
  • Collaborating with investors and analysts to develop trade ideas.
  • Collaborating with management to assess capabilities, identify platform risks, and process opportunities.
  • Collaborating with team members and related business partners to assist in the delivery of business initiatives.
  • Leading regularly scheduled investment team calls.
  • Providing original cross-asset investor content spanning global investment categories.
  • Identifying potential market impacts due to regulatory changes, underappreciated micro & macro forces, and positioning dynamics.
  • Understanding portfolio construction, client mandates, and analyst research to proactively contribute to fund performance.
  • Adhering to Fidelity Global Trading Policies and Procedures, including MiFID II obligations.
  • Assisting management in overseeing investment risk and compliance.
  • Protecting and enhancing Fidelity’s reputation in the marketplace.
  • Developing, managing, and sharing strategic industry relationships, including counterparties, trade groups, and technology providers.
