About The Position

Staff designated at Dickinson Wright PLLC (“the Firm”) as a Copyright/Trademark Paralegal are under the general supervision of the attorneys to whom assigned, as well as the Chief Human Resources Officer. As the Copyright/Trademark Paralegal, you will provide legal support to the attorneys and work with clients on their copyright and trademark filing and maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal certificate are highly recommended
  • At least 5 years of on-the-job experience is required
  • Experience using the USPTO website database
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Excellent writing/written communication skills
  • Possess knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent
  • Possess the ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when evaluating legal matters
  • Possess the ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical or spelling errors
  • Possess interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow the instruction effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
  • Regular and timely attendance at work when scheduled
  • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort and strain while organizing and maintaining multiple cases
  • Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position, may require irregular hours

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file trademark applications
  • Review and Manage client trademark dockets
  • Prepare and record documents affecting the chain of title for U.S. and International trademarks
  • Responsible for various aspects of the trademark process, including application, prosecution, maintenance, Trademark and Trial Appeal Board proceedings and related docketing
  • Coordinate and oversee U.S. and foreign trademark filings
  • Perform various tasks including copyright registrations, searches and communication with the Copyright office
  • Communicate with attorneys, clients and foreign agents regarding pending trademark applications and registered trademarks
  • Prepare Office Action responses and related correspondence
  • Review and maintain renewal and maintenance dockets for clients
