Requirements

  • Substitute teaching certification (or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire) or two years of work related experience in the designated career training area.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom instructor.
  • Implementing instructor’s lesson plans as outlined, assigning student class work and maintaining classroom control and discipline.
  • Taking attendance and ensuring students are in dress code in accordance to center policy.
  • Leaving a report for the instructor and including what assignments were completed and behavior of students.
  • Motivating and counseling students in areas of behavior, training, personal problems, or study habits.
  • Coordinating with counselors and staff as necessary to resolve issues affecting student training.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Providing positive, quality customer service to students, staff, and other center customers.
  • Ensuring students learn and practice set behavioral expectations that support employability and social development for career readiness success.
  • Supporting and promoting and enforcing the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promoting the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintaining accountability of staff, students, and property; adhering to safety practices; attending all required training.
