About The Position

Performs skilled work of moderate difficulty in electronic/electrical systems, plumbing, and HVAC operation and system controls, general maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. This role involves performing skilled work specific to assigned trades such as plumbing, HVAC, Jail Detention Systems, Electronic/System Control, and painting. The specialist will read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and drawings, while staying current with code compliance, standards, and regulations. They will also participate in training and research for new methods and procedures within their trade.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or related field.
Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
Knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials of the assigned trade.
Knowledge of standards and regulations pertaining to the assigned trade.
Operating knowledge of trade-specific tools.
Knowledge of appropriate and efficient use of repair parts and tools provided by the Facilities Department.
Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
Knowledge of clerical office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of research techniques and report writing.
Knowledge of current Microsoft Office software.
Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to communicate orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
Organization and adherence to detail.

Responsibilities

Performs skilled work specific to assigned trade, which may include plumbing, HVAC, Jail Detention Systems, Electronic/System Control and/or painting.
Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, specifications, and drawings.
Remains current in code compliance, standards, and regulations of related trades.
Participates in training and research for new methods and procedures for their trade.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Develop and implement operation and preventative maintenance programs.
Comprehend and make inferences from written material.
See projects through to completion in a timely manner.
Be fiscally responsible.
Properly use tools, materials, and equipment common to any specialty trade.
Measure distances using a tape measure and/or calibrated instruments.
Operate small and/or large power-driven machines.
Work in jail environment and around inmates in secured areas.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
Keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
Remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
Handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
Act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
