Position Summary The Trade Compliance Specialist / Trade Advisor provides expert-level HS classification, free trade agreement, refund and amend adjustment and compliance information to clients and staff. The incumbent may also assist with maintain both internal and external databases, performing audits, assisting with Quality Control and a variety of related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school education or related experience.
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) in good standing (must maintain).
  • Minimum of 5 years of rating experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of tariff, legal notes, free trade agreements, regulations, valuation, etc.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Tactful and dependable
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Experience with computer applications including Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret government regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Consideration will be given to holders of appropriate diplomas or qualifications from other institutions or organizations (e.g. Sir Sandford Fleming or Seneca Colleges, Canada Customs Qualified, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Research classification for new products and/or confirm tariff used for existing items.
  • Complete, submit and conclude all adjusting entries, including B2’s, DAS, GST, etc. This includes such tasks as researching the database, recovering files, billing, client inquiry, etc.
  • Audit and correct existing databases.
  • Provide counselling for verification audits.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to the Compliance Specialist regarding problem solving, proper method of application and interpretation of tariff; government acts and regulations, etc.
  • Review and enter free trade certificate information; inform clients of any rejected certificates.
  • Assist or complete requests for National Customs Rulings.
  • Other related duties as assigned, including assisting with Quality Control of entries, attending client meetings, general office support, etc
