About The Position

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is recruiting for a Trade and Industrial Education Specialist to serve as a statewide visionary leader and technical expert in career and technical education, specializing in high-skill, high-demand trade and industrial pathways. This role supports the Office of Student Pathways and Opportunities by developing, implementing, and sustaining rigorous, industry-aligned programs that equip students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials needed to thrive in the future competitive workforce and/or postsecondary environments.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of career and technical education services and program administration, including state and federal regulations, policies, and procedures for grades 6-12 and adults.
  • Considerable knowledge of competency-based curriculum, research-based instructional practices, and high quality sustained professional development practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of project management, including the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and deliverables with critical timelines; insight and ability to anticipate problems and develop solutions; and the ability to manage program resources and budget funding allocations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex information, performance data, and state and federal regulations and policies and communicate this information to diverse groups and individual stakeholders.
  • Considerable knowledge of technology tools and skills in the use of computers, devices, various databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software, video conferencing software, and cloud-based storage solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Trade and Industrial Education or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Eligibility for a Virginia teaching license with a Trade and Industrial Education endorsement (preferred).
  • Experience in teaching at the middle school or high school level.
  • Experience in program administration, including delivery of professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the state administrator for implementation of rigorous and relevant Trade and Industrial Education and assigned career clusters and sub-clusters that prepare youth and adults for further education and careers.
  • Provide expertise in the development of curriculum and resources related to Trade and Industrial Education programs and assigned career clusters and sub-clusters.
  • Collaborate with business and industry partners, to promote and strengthen the Trade and Industrial Education and assign career clusters and sub-clusters.
  • Contribute to the effective operations of the office and attend to routine activities and other tasks approved by the director.
