About The Position

TJX Canada is seeking a Trade and Duty Compliance Manager to lead strategic compliance initiatives ensuring all TJXC imports meet CBSA requirements for smooth and timely flow of goods into Canada. This role offers the opportunity to drive significant cost savings by identifying duty recovery opportunities and managing the Duty Drawback Program across Canadian, European, and Australian divisions, contributing to increased profitability and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Over five (5+) years of Customs and Trade Compliance experience, process improvement, and KPI achievement
  • At least two (2) years of people management experience
  • Strong ability to interpret and apply Customs legislation and supporting documents including: The Customs Tariff Act, General Interpretive Rules for Tariff Classification, Explanatory Notes, D Memo
  • Strong people leadership skills including coaching, providing advice and mentorship to Associates to resolve problems; discuss and share standard methodologies
  • Proven interpersonal skills with ability to influence business partners, to build and maintain collaborative relationships to optimally identify business opportunities

Nice To Haves

  • Designations in any of the following Customs related fields an asset: CSCB, CITT-CLP, CTCS, CCS

Responsibilities

  • Leads teams of Associates within TJXC (Customs, Trade and Duty Compliance) that are responsible for upholding absolute compliance with Customs and other Government Agencies, from time of Customs declaration to payment of duty and tax, and the post-entry period
  • Leads Trade Compliance Analysts on all matters of trade and regulatory compliance to find opportunities in product classification optimization and lead implementation of product classification optimization for duty savings and recovery opportunities resulting in cost savings.
  • Perform research and submission of customs rulings
  • Leads, coaches and develops team of direct reports through objective setting, performance reviews and Individual Development Plan (IDP) support; provides feedback, mentors, and is a resource to answer questions and discuss standard processes
  • Upholds CSA and CARM standards of business to maintain trusted trader status through up-to-date knowledge of, and adherence to CBSA and other OGD regulations and requirements
  • Leads Flatworld Solutions operation to ensure daily work is completed, quarterly business updates are held, standard operating procedure (SOP) is being adhered to, and SOP document is accurate and up to date.
  • Leads the operations required for the execution of the Drawback operations, including Claim filing and cheque processing, Management of Vendors on their own program for all Canada, Europe and Australia along with leading partnerships with MVR Logistics, Merchants, Vendors, 3rd party brokers and U.S Government Regulations to recoup U.S duties paid on eligible goods
