Tractor Trailer Mechanic

The Maintenance Technician performs routine and preventative maintenance, diagnostics/troubleshooting, and repair on vehicles for which a maintenance request has been received, including Company and owner/operator tractors and trailers, as well as equipment purchased by the Company. All maintenance and repairs on equipment are performed with driver and vehicle safety is the primary focus, including compliance with all DOT standards. This position also completes any welding necessary for repairs and upkeep of equipment.
Requirements
- Ability to bend, push, pull, reach, kneel, squat, grip and climb consistently.
- Ability to remain reclined on concrete surface for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. at a time on a regular basis.
- Ability to grip and torque variety of tools on a regular basis.
- Ability to maintain extended visual attention, including depth perception.
- Confined space entry into portal of up to 18” required for tank inspection and repair.
- Ability to tolerate strong chemical smells, such as ammonia, nitric acid, and others.
- Consistent visual focus on components of vehicles and equipment.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- CDL with Hazmat endorsement preferred but not required.
- Mechanical experience preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance, diagnostics/troubleshooting, and repair on vehicles.
- Performs maintenance and repairs on Company and owner/operator tractors and trailers, as well as equipment purchased by the Company.
- Ensures driver and vehicle safety is the primary focus during all maintenance and repairs.
- Ensures compliance with all DOT standards.
- Completes any welding necessary for repairs and upkeep of equipment.
- Performs maintenance on Cummins engines, Eaton Auto Transmissions, ABS Drum and disc brakes, wheel ends, hubs, bearings and wheel seals, tire and wheel alignments, emergency shut offs, pumps and compressors, valves and plumbing, Samsara, suspensions for air ride and spring ride, Peterbilt equipment with ESA program, and builds hoses.
- Utilizes maintenance and inventory software.
- Maintains maintenance records.
- Prepares hazardous material tanks for change in product.
- Fabricates and modifies parts using welding equipment.
