About The Position

The Tractor Trailer Driver Class A CDL is responsible for operating a truck in a safe manner, adhering to all applicable state and local transportation rules and regulations. This role involves performing daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, maintaining a clean vehicle, and communicating with dispatch. The driver will transport shipments, collect materials, and ensure proper loading and unloading of donated items, distributing weight evenly and securing materials. Responsibilities also include hauling trash and scrap metal, maintaining the first aid kit and fire extinguisher, and reporting any security or theft concerns.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (Class A; CDL).
  • Must be DOT Certified.
  • Must maintain a safe driving record (as determined by the agency's insurance carrier) and provide a copy of the 10-year Motor Vehicle Report history.
  • Ability to operate a combination tractor trailer or straight truck, meet all DOT requirements and pass a driver's skills test.
  • Ability to perform some training, checking or verifying of the work of others.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 pounds and carry it 50 feet.
  • Must be able to read a map and organize daily route schedule.
  • Must be familiar with Tri-County area.
  • Must be able to pass drug-screening procedure.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to perform basic addition and subtraction.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems.

Responsibilities

  • Operate truck in a safe manner abiding by all applicable State and local transportation rules and regulations.
  • Perform daily pre-trip inspections on vehicle prior to starting route.
  • Maintain daily log of scheduled stops.
  • Keep truck clean inside and out.
  • Maintain constant communication with Dispatcher via telephone.
  • Transport shipments to specified destinations.
  • Drive truck to destination and collect materials. Prepare records of materials collected at each location.
  • Load donated items into trucks, distributing weight evenly, forming a compact load and securing materials during transit.
  • Unload merchandise from trucks and donation centers and move to designated area.
  • Remove donated items and trash from collection sites to maintain the site in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Haul trash and scrap metal as authorized.
  • Return salvage to centralized warehouse.
  • Perform daily post-trip inspections on vehicle and notify the Transportation Manager of any concerns.
  • Ensure that first aid kit and fire extinguisher are maintained (i.e. order supplies, check inspection date on fire extinguisher).
  • Report known or suspected security and/or theft problems to the Transportation Manager, Director of Sales or the Director of Loss Prevention.
