About The Position

The Track Maintenance position at Los Angeles Junction Railway involves constructing, inspecting, and repairing tracks and other railroad property/facilities. This role also includes operating and maintaining equipment, transporting crews and equipment to job sites, and traveling/working within an assigned geographic area. Safety is paramount, requiring compliance with company and federal safety rules, wearing required safety equipment, and responding to safety concerns. The job involves extensive physical labor, including repairing and rebuilding track, using various hand and power tools, lifting track material, clearing vegetation and debris, and operating equipment for rail and ballast work. A significant part of the role includes operating heavy trucks (26K+ lbs) and ensuring their proper maintenance, along with submitting required paperwork for repairs. The company provides on-the-job training, including preparation for obtaining a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Willing to submit to a background review
  • Available to work in the geographic area indicated
  • Able to read, write, and communicate (speak, hear, and understand) English
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Available to work full-time (40 hrs/wk) subject to overtime, on-call (24/7), alternating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays
  • Available to travel to job sites around the designated seniority region and remain on site for extended periods, sometimes days or weeks at a time
  • Able to lift and carry up to 60 lbs frequently
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license
  • Able to visually distinguish colors (red, blue, green, yellow)
  • Able to hear, and with training, distinguish auditory signals
  • Able to use hands to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling
  • Able to perform work on uneven surfaces
  • Able to frequently climb on/off equipment
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise and fumes
  • Able to work on/around heavy/moving machinery
  • Able to bend, walk, stand, sit for extended periods of time
  • Able to use hand tools
  • Able to follow safety policies and procedures

  • Must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

Responsibilities

  • Construct, inspect, and repair track, and other railroad property/facilities.
  • Operate and maintain equipment.
  • Transport crews and equipment to and from job sites.
  • Travel and work in assigned geographic areas.

  • Wear required safety equipment and respond to safety concerns.
  • Repair and rebuild track using power and non-power tools.
  • Lift and carry track material, cut brush, trees, and vegetation, and clear litter and cargo spillage.
  • Pull spikes from ties, drill holes in rail to insert bolts, and fit bolts.
  • Remove and replace ballast.
  • Operate large non-power tools (shovels, picks, axes, cutters, sledgehammers) and electric, pneumatic, hydraulic tools (drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, grinders).
  • Cut rail, manually compress ballast, remove/install ties, lift, roll, and adjust rails.
  • Operate 26K+ lb trucks.
  • Ensure proper truck and equipment maintenance.
  • Submit required paperwork for truck repairs or welding equipment.
