About The Position

Responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings and structures in the stable area throughout the year and, during live racing season, maintaining the dirt track using a variety of maintenance vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of safe equipment operation, inspection, maintenance, and required personal protective equipment.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry, steel framing, basic electrical and plumbing structures, hand and power tools, and materials suitable for an equine environment.
  • Ability to estimate project materials, costs, and completion timeframes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and keep the supervisor informed of relevant activities.
  • High school diploma or GED certificate plus two years of similar work experience.
  • Four years of work experience may be considered in lieu of the education and experience requirement.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Virginia Racing Commission license.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment as indicated in the operator’s manual and in a safe manner.
  • Performs daily equipment inspections.
  • Maintains equipment daily and reports all incidents, malfunctions, and unsafe or unhealthy conditions to the supervisor.
  • Maintains area grounds using methods including mowing, edging, and trash pickup.
  • Cleans the area around manure bins daily for pickup during racing season.
  • Installs and repairs electrical and plumbing structures and fixtures.
  • Measures, cuts, and shapes wood and other materials.
  • Constructs building frameworks, including walls, floors, door frames, downspouts, and gutters.
  • Inspects and replaces damaged framework or other structures and fixtures.
  • Uses hand and power tools, including squares, levels, chisels, sanders, circular saws, drills, and nail guns, to cut and shape wood, drywall, and other materials.
  • Fastens materials together accurately using nails, screws, staples, and adhesives.
  • Measures materials to support productivity, reduce waste, and promote efficiency.
  • Works with light-gauge and load-bearing steel framing for interior partitions, exterior framing, and wall construction.
  • Determines the amount and cost of materials required for projects and provides a materials list to the supervisor.
  • Properly cordons off construction areas to help ensure the safety of others.
  • Uses materials that are compatible with an equine environment.
  • Uses all required personal protective equipment and follows all policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Provides an accurate timeframe for project completion.
  • Keeps the supervisor informed of relevant activities.
  • Attends required Company training sessions.
  • Obtains and maintains all required licenses.
  • Performs duties in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Takes necessary steps to prevent minors from gambling or loitering in gambling areas, consuming alcoholic beverages, or purchasing tobacco.
  • Maintains knowledge of ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures applicable to the department.
  • Maintains knowledge of the Property’s programs addressing problem gaming.
  • Reports any known acts of wrongdoing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
