About The Position

The Track Laborer performs a variety of physical labor tasks at construction sites, using hand and power tools and other equipment. This is a beginner-level position. The work includes preparing construction sites, assisting with track and track-component removal and replacement, observing track conditions, and following company and railroad safety requirements. The role is performed outdoors and involves strenuous physical activity and exposure to weather, noise, and potentially live tracks, trains, and high voltage.

Requirements

A minimum of 0–12 months of relevant construction experience.
Ability to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
Driver’s license, reliable transportation, and availability to travel.
Ability to perform strenuous physical activities, including standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling materials, equipment, and tools.
Ability to use hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects, machinery, and tools up to 50 pounds.
Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company.

Responsibilities

Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
Measure, mark, and record openings and distances to lay out areas for construction work.
Control traffic near, in, and around work zones.
Remove and replace track and track components, including ties, rails, and bars.
Slide and align tie plates.
Observe tracks, track beds, and track right of way to detect and report problems or defects.
Dig holes and trenches.
Use basic hand tools such as a sledgehammer, pick, track wrench, and spike maul, and perform basic tool maintenance.
Comply with company and railroad safety rules, practices, and regulations.
