About The Position

This position will require an individual to maintain and repair all elements of the right-of-way along with constructing and dismantling tracks. The role involves ensuring a safe environment and compliance with all railroad rules, procedures, and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Responsibilities include correcting deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge; accurately cutting rail; replacing or repairing switches; and removing and replacing tracks and their components. The Track Laborer will also unload or assist in unloading ballast, and unload and distribute track material. A key aspect of the role is vigilance regarding track and structure issues that may impact the safety or condition of railroad property. This includes performing continual on-track inspections of all trackage and right-of-way facilities at required intervals to ensure safe train operation and compliance with company standards and FRA track safety standards. The position requires operating various tools such as rail saws, track wrenches, spike mauls, come-a-longs, and claw bars. Additionally, the role involves spraying switches, angle bars, curves, and joints, and lubricating track as necessary. Accurate completion and timely submission of all required forms are essential. The Track Laborer will safely operate track machinery and equipment, work effectively in a team environment with co-workers and contractors, and properly inspect, utilize, store, and maintain all tools, materials, and equipment. Effective communication, both written and verbal, via telephone and two-way radios is required, as is the ability to receive instructions in written form. The role includes removing brush, snow, vegetation, and other obstructions from the right-of-way. Tasks must be completed in a timely manner as they can be time-sensitive. Other duties as assigned.

High School Diploma or GED required; 18 years of age or older.
Valid motor vehicle operator's license with ability to drive a company vehicle per commercial vehicle requirements.
A valid CDL license and/or the ability to fulfill and maintain a CDL license.
This safety-sensitive position will be subject to drug and alcohol FRA random screening.
