About The Position

As a Track Laborer - Regional Welder, you will play a vital role in the repair and reconstruction of railway tracks, employing a diverse range of hand tools and specialized equipment. Requirements

  • Must have reached the age of 21 or above.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Possession of a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or Class B, or the ability to acquire one within the probationary period.
  • Demonstrated experience in welding or a valid welding certificate (including professional, personal, and volunteer experience).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to colleagues and supervisors.
  • Strong ability to read and understand regulations and instructions.
  • Candidates are required to successfully complete an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring company sponsorship.
  • Must comply with the company's policy of wearing personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required.
  • Must have reliable transportation arrangements.
  • Must be comfortable and capable of working around large equipment such as railcars, locomotives, and cranes.

  • Must demonstrate a willingness to consistently practice safe work habits.
  • Must meet the medical requirements (also called physical qualifications) for commercial motor vehicle drivers as specified by the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
  • Must have the capacity to engage in physically demanding tasks, including occasional bending, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 65 lbs, as well as push and pull objects up to 119 lbs.
  • Must be capable of standing for extended periods during the workday, with the flexibility to change positions periodically for comfort.
  • Safely walk and maintain balance on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to climb ladders to access truck storage as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with either Class A or Class B endorsement.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Railroad Maintenance of Way work.
  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment, including but not limited to construction and farm machinery. This experience can be gained through professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in construction-type environments, showcasing your ability to handle the demands and challenges of such settings. This experience can be obtained through professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • Proven track record of working outdoors in various weather conditions, exhibiting resilience and adaptability. This experience can be acquired through professional, personal, or volunteer work.
  • Availability and willingness to work on-call, overtime, and during various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and potentially seven days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, installations, and removal of track components as required
  • Safely handle and move track materials and equipment using loading and unloading devices
  • Regularly inspect the track for problems, defects, and any potential hazards
  • Monitor the right-of-way and passing trains for any signs of shifted loads or spillage
  • Operate equipment proficiently to drive spikes, adjust track bolts, and use pullers to remove spikes
  • Maintain the trackbed by removing and replacing ballast, tamping ballast, and assisting with unloading ballast from ballast cars
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers
  • Effectively handle and resolve any conflicts or controversies that may arise
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, operational guidelines, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements
  • Fulfill any additional responsibilities as assigned by superiors.
