About The Position

R. J. Corman Railroad Switching Company is seeking a Track Inspector in Westlake, LA. This individual will safely inspect rails, ties, roadbed and switches. They will work in conjunction with the Track Superintendent and Track Owner to install and repair track, and complete other projects as needed. The role involves operating machinery to inspect track, completing all required documentation, and promoting a safe work environment. Responsibilities also include performing tasks associated with track work such as pulling and driving spikes, replacing ties, surfacing track, and changing rail, bars, and other track apparatus.

Requirements

  • Able to pass railroad safety test and training.
  • Can safely and efficiently operate power tools.
  • Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
  • Should be multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.
  • Able to perform physical strenuous work
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs
  • Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force
  • Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force
  • Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
  • Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Railroad experience preferred.
  • Prefer related work experience of at least 2 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.
