About The Position

The Track Hoe Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating track hoes (hydraulic excavators) and related heavy equipment used in site development, roadwork, utility installation, and earthmoving projects. The ideal candidate has experience operating heavy machinery and can perform excavation tasks in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

Requirements

  • Minimum OSHA 10 certification required.
  • 2-5 years of experience operating track hoes or hydraulic excavators in heavy civil, utility, or road construction preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL and equipment certifications preferred.
  • Ability to read construction plans, grade stakes, utility locates, and site layouts.
  • Knowledge of excavation techniques, trench safety requirements, and underground utility installation.
  • Thorough understanding of equipment capabilities, limitations, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment in confined spaces and around existing utilities.
  • Maintain safe and secure work environment by complying with government standards and legal regulations. Practice good safety habits.
  • Follow instructions and meet set standards
  • Ability to accurately judge distances, grades, and slopes.
  • Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and subcontractors.
  • Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate track hoes (hydraulic excavators) in support of construction activities.
  • Perform excavation-related tasks including trenching, grading, digging, backfilling, loading trucks, lifting materials, and slope finishing.
  • Excavate for underground utilities including water, sewer, storm drainage, and electrical systems while maintaining proper clearances.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, utility markings, and GPS machine control systems to ensure accurate excavation.
  • Conduct daily pre- and post-operation inspections of equipment and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including checking fluid levels, greasing components, and cleaning equipment.
  • Work closely with supervisors, foremen, pipe crews, laborers, and other equipment operators to complete projects efficiently.
  • Maintain constant awareness of surroundings to avoid damage to underground utilities, structures, or personnel
  • Load and unload materials while minimizing equipment wear and maintaining site safety.
  • Assist with manual labor and general site duties when equipment operation is not required.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures, traffic control regulations, and equipment operating standards
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment at the end of each shift
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
