The Track Head Boys Coach supervises sport-specific student-athletes and assistant coaches in accordance with the Gadsden Independent School District’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include adherence to the Gadsden Independent School District’s rules, regulations, and Athletic Philosophy; promoting and encouraging students to play sports; and treating student-athletes in a professional manner in conjunction with the athletic coordinator and campus principal. The role also involves developing a program that excels in athletic performance, classroom achievement, and community expectations, while enforcing a "Code of Ethics" for all athletes and teaching sportsmanship. The coach is responsible for the conduct and well-being of all players and assistant coaches, and must conduct themselves in a manner that brings credit to themselves, their team, and the school. They are expected to maintain open communication with participants, teachers, administrators, and parents, and monitor academic performance to ensure student-athlete success. The coach must be familiar with and follow the policies and guidelines of the Gadsden Independent School District and the New Mexico Activities Association, ensuring all required paperwork is completed. They report inappropriate behavior to the Campus Principal and Athletic Coordinator, and supervise and evaluate assistant coaches. The coach is responsible to the Principal and Athletic Director for the entire program (grades 7-8), attends professional meetings and clinics, and works with other staff to upgrade the athletic program. Injured participants must not be allowed to play until cleared by a medical professional. The coach cooperates with other coaches and programs, encourages athletes to participate in other sports, and coordinates facility use. They also work directly with and support the high school program and head coach, aligning offensive and defensive strategies with the high school’s philosophy. Coaching strategies should reflect technical knowledge and the ability to adapt to game situations, utilizing up-to-date philosophies and sound teaching skills. The coach is responsible for securing facilities after use, supervising the locker room, and ensuring school-purchased uniforms and equipment are used appropriately. They submit inventory, equipment requests, and transportation requests after the season and follow district guidelines for fundraising. The coach agrees to fulfill performance responsibilities in assigned locations and complies with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
