About The Position

Penn State Scranton Athletics, a member of the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), is accepting applications for a Part-Time Head Men's & Women's Track & Field Coach. This position provides leadership and oversight for the Track & Field program at Penn State Scranton. The Head Coach is responsible for all aspects of the track & field program, including practice planning, competition coaching, student-athlete development, and recruitment of academically qualified student-athletes. The position primarily operates during the competitive season, with off-season responsibilities related to recruiting and program development. The Head Coach will have the opportunity to work with and supervise a Part-Time Assistant Coach.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Coaching or playing experience at the high school level or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of the sport of track & field, including rules, strategies, and skill development.
  • Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, assistant coaches, administrators, and staff.
  • Knowledge of USCAA, PSUAC, and NCAA compliance rules.
  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree (strongly preferred)
  • Collegiate coaching experience.
  • Experience in event coordination and personnel management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitions.
  • Provide game day coaching and in-game decision-making.
  • Oversee player development, including athletic, academic, and personal growth.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and team-focused culture.
  • Provide vision and leadership aligned with Penn State’s values and athletics mission.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain academically qualified and talented student-athletes.
  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective student-athletes and families.
  • Ensure recruiting efforts comply with PSUAC, USCAA, and NCAA Division III rules.
  • Manage all day-to-day program operations under the direction of the Athletic Director.
  • Coordinate practice schedules and team activities.
  • Supervise team events and travel as assigned.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to the Director of Athletics for weekly, seasonal, conference, and national awards.
  • Work collaboratively with athletics staff, administrators, and campus partners.
  • Encourage and support academic success and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Assist with the development of community service and service-learning opportunities.
  • Use service activities to teach life lessons emphasizing respect, hard work, education, and service to others.
  • Ensure strict adherence to PSUAC, USCAA, and NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Maintain required certifications, including CPR and First Aid.
