About The Position

ICF is seeking a Toxicologist to join its Health Science Portfolio, a group of over 100 science professionals. This team provides comprehensive support in toxicology, hazard assessment, epidemiology, risk assessment, exposure assessment, and environmental modeling. They specialize in evaluating the health and environmental effects of various agents, including chemicals and microbes like metals, pesticides, and volatile organic compounds. The Toxicologist will support federal agencies such as the U.S. EPA and NIEHS by conducting and reporting on hazard studies and supporting risk assessments for environmental pollutants and microbes. This position can be remote, with a preference for candidates located in Durham, NC.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree or equivalent in toxicology, pharmacology, environmental science, or related subject.
  • Minimum one year of experience with government programs (preferably U.S. EPA or NIEHS).
  • Proactive and problem-solving approach to challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with project management and staff leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute technical approaches to solving scientific questions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide project and technical support for activities involving toxicology data, mechanistic data, systematic literature reviews, and risk assessment on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Support and lead literature reviews of carcinogens and other substances for potentially hazardous agents, including screening studies, extracting data, evaluating study design and bias, synthesizing evidence, performing quantitative analyses (dose-response relationships, meta-analyses), and documenting findings.
  • Manage tasks and projects.
  • Interact and correspond with clients.
  • Review work produced by others.
  • Develop technical publications and guidance, present at conferences, and contribute to proposal sections.
  • Mentor and train other technical staff.
