About The Position

The Tower Technician III serves as the lead climber and primary technical resource on the crew, acting as the Foreman’s right hand in the field. This role is responsible for executing the most technical aspects of tower installation, including antenna alignment, advanced rigging, and RF/fiber testing, while ensuring the crew operates safely, efficiently, and to specification. The Tower Technician III leads by example in safety and workmanship, mentors lower-level crew members, and steps into a leadership capacity whenever the Foreman requires support. This is a Safety-Sensitive position.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of construction and maintenance for self-support, guyed, and monopole towers.
  • Proficiency in advanced rigging techniques; ability to use transits and compasses to set azimuths to engineering standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with Anritsu gear and fiber testing tools (Sweep, PIM, OTDR, fiber scope).
  • Self-motivated with a strong ability to learn new technologies and troubleshooting methods efficiently.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, piping diagrams, engineering specifications, and testing procedures.
  • NWSA Tower Technician II Certification
  • NWSA Antenna Line Specialty and/or Advanced Rigger Specialty
  • Clear and effective verbal communication skills to coordinate with the Foreman and ground crew while climbing.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and carry out written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Must project a positive attitude toward others and demonstrate strong leadership in all field settings.
  • Must be able to work effectively as part of a high-functioning team in high-pressure environments.
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to routinely bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift 50 lbs or more (including in awkward positions), stand, and twist for extended periods.
  • Must be able to climb and perform work at various heights, up to 500 feet or more, for extended periods.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements set forth in ANSI Z359 for fall protection gear.
  • Must be able to pull his/her own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly.
  • Must be willing to travel out of market/state in alignment with Company needs.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening including background check, drug screen, and DOT physical.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive company vehicles.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of tower construction or related field experience preferred.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Upholds the Company’s Core Value of Safety over production; ensures 100% tie-off at all times and verifies all crew members are using PPE correctly.
  • Performs high-level installation of antennas, mounts, cable ladders, and fiber; troubleshoots complex electronic components and lighting systems.
  • Utilizes advanced rigging techniques—including ropes, blocks, tackles, and gin poles—to safely move materials and equipment at all heights.
  • Conducts Sweep and PIM testing (Anritsu preferred) and fiber scope/OTDR testing; ensures results meet carrier specifications before leaving the site.
  • Acts as the “Right Hand” to the Foreman, assisting in planning and scheduling work activities to meet profitability and deadline goals.
  • Uses transits and compasses to set azimuths to standard engineering tolerances.
  • Holds tailgate meetings in the Foreman’s absence; ensures daily JSA forms and safety paperwork are completed accurately.
  • Actively mentors and trains Tower Technician I, II, and Apprentice crew members, enhancing overall team performance and knowledge transfer.
  • Ensures all workmanship exceeds industry standards and customer specifications before leaving the job site.
  • Maintains company vehicles, trailers, and tools in a clean and professional condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.
