About The Position

Qualified tower crane operators will be capable of working at heights and safely operating tower cranes under diverse work conditions, project locations, and work schedules as business dictates. The qualified tower crane operator will be required to comply with the ASME B30.3 and B30.29 qualifications and Conduct of Operators and Operating Practices. This job will be based in Columbia, SC.

Requirements

Qualified operator will be required to provide and maintain NCCCO Tower Crane Operator Certification or equivalent from another accredited certification agency.
Must furnish satisfactory evidence of qualifications and experience.
Must complete an evaluation on the type and model of tower crane they are operating.
Vision of at least 20/30 Snellen in one eye and 20/50 in the other, with or without corrective lenses.
Ability to distinguish colors, regardless of position, if color differentiation is required.
Adequate hearing to meet operational demands, with or without hearing aid.
Sufficient strength, endurance, agility, coordination, and speed of reaction to meet the operation demands.
Depth perception, field of vision, reaction time, manual dexterity, coordination, and no tendencies to dizziness or similar undesirable characteristics to meet the operational demands.
A negative result for a substance abuse test.
No evidence of having physical defects or emotional instability that could render a hazard to the operator or others, or that in the opinion of the medical authority could interfere with the operator’s performance.
No evidence of being subject to seizures or loss of physical control that cannot be controlled with medication.

Responsibilities

Capability of safely climbing and working at heights of several hundred feet.
Ability to concentrate and not engage in any practice which might divert attention when operating the crane.
Ensuring that there is no sudden acceleration or deceleration of loads during movement.
Not to side load the jib/ boom by dragging loads.
Avoiding carrying loads over people.
Responding to signals from the person who is directing the lift, or an appointed signalperson.
Obeying stop or emergency stop signals at all times, no matter who gives it.
Stopping operations until communication is restored if communications with a signalperson are disrupted.
Not leaving the controls while a load is suspended.
Operating cranes only when wind speeds are within the maximum velocity recommended by the manufacturer.
Being responsible for the operations under the operator’s direct control.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations and B30.3 and B30.29 standards as they apply to tower crane operation and inspection.
Execution and completion of required pre-operational inspection and checks.
Testing all controls at the start of a new shift and ensuring they operate properly before operations begin.
Knowledge and performance of preventative maintenance as required by the manufacturer.
Reporting necessary adjustments or repairs promptly to the District Service Manager.
Complying with Company and Regulatory safety requirements and specifications on jobsites.
Notifying the District Service Manager of unsafe conditions or practices.
Understanding and properly using Company supplied safety equipment as required, including hard hats, safety glasses, body harnesses, lanyard, etc. in compliance with Company policy.
Representing the Company in a professional manner.
Ability to read and understand all information contained in the crane’s operation manual, including specific hazards and warnings.
Maintaining a clean, safe and orderly workspace.
Assisting co-workers whenever possible.
Working overtime when necessary.
Constantly working in a safe manner and complying with all Morrow safety policies.
