About The Position

The Tow Truck driver transports vehicles or parts from one location to another. Tow truck drivers are responsible for assessing the situation, and safely towing the vehicle to a designated location. Specific contributions of a tow truck driver to the organization's overall mission include: Picking up vehicles from various locations to ensure that the organization has a steady supply of inventory to sell to customers, providing excellent customer service by handling all interactions with customers in a friendly and professional manner, building a positive reputation for the organization which increases customer loyalty, and inspecting vehicles and equipment prior to departure to ensure safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Automotive experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate a flatbed tow truck.
  • Valid and clear driver’s license with a current DOT Medical Card
  • CDL License is required (if the vehicle to be driven vehicle driven has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,00 pounds or more)
  • Must be 21 years of age or older to operate per interstate commerce requirements
  • 1-year minimum driving tow truck or other commercial driving experience required.
  • Demonstrate good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively across functions.
  • Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above.
  • Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to frequently remain seated and operate a delivery vehicle for varying periods of the day.
  • Must be able to frequently ambulate in and out of delivery vehicles ascending/descending ladders, stairs, ramps, and the like.
  • Must be able to use hands, arms, and fingers consistently.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle consistently.
  • Frequently ambulate in different positions in both confined and unconfined spaces to accomplish loading and unloading tasks and safety inspections.
  • Ability to use both hands frequently with enough dexterity to safely operate basic hand and power tools occasionally.
  • Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information safely.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
  • Expected work hours are based on role and location
  • Ability to work occasional overtime as needed as determined by the employee’s supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to dispatch requests in a timely manner and tow the vehicles or parts to their desired location as quickly as possible.
  • Knowledge of common routes, ability to plan and keep focused while transporting cars parts from one location to another.
  • Ensure that parts or vehicles are transported safely, efficiently, on time, and in good condition to each location.
  • Comply with federal and state regulations governing the operation of towing vehicles including following all traffic laws.
  • Ensure the tow trucks driven are scheduled for service and repairs when necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures put in place by the company, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hard hats, and high visibility vests, ensuring that your vehicle is in good condition, and following all traffic laws.
  • Securely and safely hook up and tow various vehicles or parts.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, such as using proper towing techniques.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle safety inspections and reports.
  • Safe vehicle operation and compliance with regulations set forth by the Department of Transportation.
  • Report all driving violations, vehicle operational concerns, or damage immediately, regardless of perceived significance.
  • Follow proper loading, towing, and unloading procedures and techniques.
  • Inspect vehicles for any damage or missing parts and document appropriately.
  • Ensure that the vehicles and any loose parts are secured properly and will not be damaged or cause damage during transit.
  • Maintain accurate records of the vehicles towed, including the make and model, pickup location, and destination.
  • Complete report of any in-transit or delivery damage.
  • Interact with customers in a polite and professional manner.
  • May handle payment transactions.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned
