About The Position

The TOSA/Math Interventionist works with the Principal in carrying out the school’s academic and behavior programs. As a professional educator the TOSA/Math Interventionist understands and responds to the challenges presented by today’s diverse student population. The TOSA/Math Interventionist provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support the students’ academic achievement, personal and social development. The TOSA/Math Interventionist works cooperatively with the principal, counselor, nurse, staff, students and parents towards a positive school climate. The District represents a diverse community. More than 50% of our students arrive with diverse backgrounds. We seek an individual who has successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication with the District’s diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities or demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
  • Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university, and valid Washington state certification(s) and/or endorsement(s).
  • Successful completion of or commitment to timely complete, highly qualified (“HQ”) criteria including praxis requirements.
  • Demonstrated content knowledge for subjects/levels being taught.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff verbally and in writing.
  • Commitment to collaboration and teaming and effectiveness in working within a professional learning community.
  • Skill in classroom management and ability to achieve, support, and maintain acceptable student behavior.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate and multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development and ability to apply that knowledge to the selection and application of curriculum materials and instructional practices.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use and strategies necessary to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Knowledge and skill in culturally responsive teaching and learning.
  • Skill and ability to utilize technology to aid instruction, assessment and learning.
  • Evidence of continuous professional learning and a commitment to participate in professional growth opportunities and self-reflection on professional practice.
  • Any position specific special qualifications indicated in the recruitment process.
  • Five years demonstrated successful teaching and/or counseling experience at middle school (Specific to Dean of Students).
  • Washington State Administrator credential preferred or demonstrated interest in working towards that credential (Specific to Dean of Students).
  • Must complete a satisfactory fingerprint and sexual misconduct background check.
  • Proof that the fingerprinting process has begun must be supplied to Human Resources prior to the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans for student success based on assessed needs of individual students and the use of data and information to determine each student’s current knowledge and skill level, set student learning goals, and assess student progress.
  • Assists teacher success by providing leadership and support for teachers, principals, and schools.
  • Facilitates groups of teachers in work around district initiatives.
  • Communicates effectively with all constituents, e.g., teachers, administrators, and parents.
  • Supports the implementation of core and strategic instructional programs for all students in the regular classroom.
  • Provides support to teachers in the implementation of research-based instruction, assessment, curriculum, and materials.
  • Works collaboratively in a professional learning community with other teachers, support staff, and others as appropriate, in addressing the needs of students, developing effective teaching and assessment practices, and implementing these best practices.
  • Actively participates in faculty and grade level or department meetings, assist building efforts to plan, budget, implement, and evaluate the school’s program and to do related work as required.
  • Assists in the supervision of students at school activities and events.
  • Remains vigilant of students throughout the school day and the school location, taking the initiative to engage students when students are acting inappropriately or in inappropriate locations for the time of day.
  • Establishes a professional growth plan and annually reviews the plan and progress with the administrator.
  • Serves as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept.
  • Participates or leads development of positive behavior support systems and development of intervention strategies.
  • Attends and participates in various leadership team meetings and other building meetings as assigned.
  • Interprets attendance data accurately.
  • Coordinates, facilitates and implements attendance intervention steps, including but not limited to holding attendance conferences, making home visits, and preparing BECCA paperwork.
  • Contacts students and parents to discuss attendance irregularities.
  • Collaborates with the principal in cases of absences at or beyond twelve days.
  • Implements school wide expectations and assists with student discipline.
  • Motivates students in a positive direction which will help students to increase individual decision making responsibilities.
  • Effectively supervises building classified staff in keeping with the staff member’s collective bargaining agreement.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Follows Board policies and stays abreast of updates and changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Collaborates to develop a K-12 Math plan with common assessments and interventions.
  • Implements math workshop, Making Thinking Visible, models of instruction.
