About The Position

This role involves supervising and directing crew members, teaching less experienced team members, and collaborating with the crew foreperson. The Top Hand is responsible for overseeing the top part of jobs daily and filling in when the foreperson is away. This position also requires ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are available and in working order, performing vehicle and equipment inspections, and adhering to safety procedures. The Top Hand will take direction to build jobs according to scope of work and construction drawings, report deviations, maintain site cleanliness, document work, and prepare for upcoming jobs.

Requirements

  • 4 years basic knowledge of Wireless construction and tool manipulation.
  • Rigging experience.
  • Experience working with and around cranes.
  • Ability and willingness to teach and develop less experienced team members.
  • Ability to interpret engineered drawings and knowledge of fiber and DC drawings.
  • Demonstrate strong adherence to safety procedures.
  • Good physical condition and comfortable working at heights.
  • Willing to work outdoors and be exposed to all types of weather.
  • Valid Canadian driver’s license is needed.
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Clean Criminal record.
  • Maintain a professional working relationship with co-workers and clients.
  • Must be dependable, trustworthy and have a positive attitude!

Nice To Haves

  • Tower Build Experience an asset.
  • Gin Pole Experience an asset.
  • TELUS/Bell/Rogers/Freedom cellular systems experience.
  • Telecom troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of OTDR, sweep test equipment, and fiber fusion.

Responsibilities

  • Review the scope of work and construction drawings with the Crew Lead.
  • Teach less experienced team members.
  • Supervise and direct crew members when working.
  • Collaborate with the crew foreperson and run/oversee the top part of the jobs daily and fill in when the foreperson is away or off site.
  • Aid in verifying that all materials for the project are brought to the job site.
  • Verify that all the tools, equipment, and stocked supplies on your work vehicle are available and in working order.
  • Check the oil and fluids of each work vehicle.
  • Inspect each piece of equipment in your charge before use.
  • Inspect all PFAS (personal fall arrest systems) prior to climbing (assist in preparation of JHA).
  • Attend a daily tailgate meeting to address daily tasks and safety issues.
  • Report any safety concerns to the Crew Lead and/or Safety Coordinator.
  • Take direction from the Crew Lead to build the job following the scope of work/construction drawings.
  • Report any deviations from the scope of work/construction drawings to the Crew Lead.
  • Keep the site clean and orderly throughout the whole project.
  • Take pictures of final work and upload all documentation to our internal system.
  • Clean out truck(s) and trailer(s) after each job and put materials and equipment away.
  • Begin preparations for next job.
