Tools and PLM Engineer

Mind Robotics•Palo Alto, CA

About The Position

Mind Robotics is hiring a Tools and PLM Engineer to own the CAD and engineering tools used by its hardware teams. The role serves as the resident expert for Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE and keeps the wider engineering toolchain operational and current. The engineer will build processes that carry engineering data to manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and the rest of the company, while evaluating new technologies and deciding what to adopt, change, or retire. The position owns Mind’s engineering systems domain end to end, including CAD, ECAD, simulation, and CAM tools. It defines engineering-data practices and standards, sets the roadmap for engineering systems, and supports engineers through hands-on CAD expertise, training, automation, and durable solutions to recurring issues.

Requirements

  • Track record of owning PLM and engineering tools for a hardware company whose other teams depended on the data and processes managed.
  • Advanced, hands-on expertise with CAD tools such as 3DEXPERIENCE, including experience serving as the go-to CAD expert for an engineering team.
  • Deep knowledge of release, change, and BOM management in CAD tools such as 3DEXPERIENCE.
  • Experience designing how engineering data reaches manufacturing and supply chain, such as EBOM-to-MBOM handoff and ERP item and BOM transfer.
  • Scripting experience in EKL, VBA, Python, C#, or similar, and experience building on APIs.
  • Good judgment in prioritizing problems and evaluating tools, including distinguishing real value from hype.
  • Clear communication with engineers and leads in manufacturing, supply chain, and quality, and patience as a trainer.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the expert and primary support contact for CAD tools, including modeling, assembly, data, performance, and licensing issues.
  • Own the engineering systems domain, including 3DEXPERIENCE and the CAD, ECAD, simulation, and CAM toolchain; manage administration, configuration, upgrades, licenses, and vendors.
  • Design processes and integrations that move released parts, BOMs, drawings, and changes from engineering to manufacturing, supply chain, and quality without manual re-entry.
  • Define engineering-data practices, including part numbering, release, change management, BOM structure, and the EBOM-to-MBOM handoff.
  • Set the engineering-systems roadmap, prioritize problems, make cross-team tradeoffs, and explain decisions about what not to address.
  • Evaluate new tools and vendor functionality, decide what to adopt, change, or retire, and lead rollouts across teams.
  • Set CAD, data, and release standards for engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality, and develop training to support adoption.
  • Automate repetitive CAD and PLM work with scripts, templates, tools, and API integrations, and turn recurring support issues into lasting fixes.
