About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Toolroom Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining fixtures, jigs, and tools used in the manufacturing of PHD products. This role requires expertise in using a variety of machine tools and precision instruments, along with a strong understanding of mechanics, GD&T, and manufacturing processes. The Toolroom Technician will focus primarily on repair and preventative maintenance for tooling and equipment, with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a tool maker in a manufacturing environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and applying GD&T principles.
  • Experienced in operating manual machine tools.
  • Knowledge of shop mathematics, mechanics, and metal properties.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with CAD software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in the Machining field
  • 5 years of manual and CNC machining including grinding
  • 4 years writing, proofing and improving CNC and manual machine processes for mills and turning machines
  • 1 year of project management including developing, implementing and leading departmental continuous improvement projects
  • PC skills necessary for this position include Microsoft Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, JD Edwards and Explorer for directory maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification or Associate Degree from an accredited technical school is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, and build new fixtures, gages, and tools using machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance on existing fixtures, tools, gages, and other equipment to ensure functionality and minimize downtime.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units and tools to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Research, select, purchase, and organize replacement tooling, cutters, and other supplies.
  • Provide tooling, fixture, and gage support to manufacturing departments and engineering.
  • Assist in training production personnel on machine setups, processes, and procedures.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to improve tool and equipment performance.
  • Assist in writing work instructions and procedures, and utilize CAD software for designs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized toolroom and equipment.
