About The Position

The Toolroom Attendant is responsible for maintaining tooling setups in a safe, organized, and efficient manner to support production operations. This role includes inspecting, sharpening, measuring, and maintaining tooling while ensuring the toolroom inventory is properly managed and available for manufacturing needs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of machining tools, cutting tool geometry, and tool maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and tooling specifications.
  • Experience using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gages, and ring gages.
  • Understanding of drill grinding procedures and tool re-sharpening methods.
  • Ability to maintain an organized tooling inventory and monitor tool condition.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures while operating grinding and toolroom equipment.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with supervisors, machinists, and toolroom staff.
  • Basic troubleshooting ability related to tool wear, breakage, or performance issues.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate supervision while maintaining accuracy and productivity.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Previous tooling or machining experience preferred
  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent Experience required
  • Previous tooling experience
  • Machining knowledge is recommended

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a drill grinder.
  • Operate a Zoller presetter for tool measurement and setup.
  • Maintain tooling inventory including inspection, repair, and re-grinding of cutting tools.
  • Sharpen tooling after each use before returning it to the tool kit and visually inspect for defects or wear.
  • Use and interpret micrometers, calipers, height gages, ring gages, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Communicate the current status of tooling and toolroom operations to the Production Supervisor.
  • Identify when assistance is needed to complete tasks and communicate needs appropriately.
  • Assist other toolroom personnel or production employees as needed.
  • Support the training of new employees on toolroom procedures and equipment.
