About The Position

The Tool Maker is responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and maintaining machine components to support production operations. This role involves fabricating precision machine parts from raw steel to exact specifications, often serving as direct replacements for OEM components. The Tool Maker plays a critical role in ensuring efficient manufacturing processes by supporting production needs while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Strong proficiency in manual and CNC machining operations
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
Advanced troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills
High attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship
Strong understanding of shop safety practices and procedures
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Flexibility to adapt to changing production needs

Responsibilities

Reverse engineer existing machine components and provide detailed sketches and documentation for management records
Fabricate, modify, and repair machine parts based on blueprints, sketches, and specifications
Set up and operate manual and CNC machinery including mills, lathes, surface grinders, saws, drill presses, and other fabrication equipment
Efficiently operate all ClosetMaid machine shop CNC equipment on a regular basis
Observe machine operation and diagnose malfunctions, determining necessary repairs or adjustments
Measure, mark, and prepare metal stock for machining
Disassemble equipment to inspect and identify defective components
Repair or replace worn or damaged parts using various types of metal stock
Reassemble machinery and test to confirm proper functionality
Maintain and lubricate tools, machinery, and equipment to ensure optimal performance
Collaborate effectively within a team environment and maintain consistent attendance
Support production needs, including working overtime as required by business demands
