About The Position

The Tooling Technician is responsible for maintaining proper inventory levels of tooling, planning and coordinating replenishment, and managing the receipt, inspection, and stocking of tooling. This role involves pulling and distributing tooling to the correct locations and kits, utilizing Tool Layouts and BOMs to prepare kits for tool assemblies, and ensuring high availability of tooling for production. The technician will also re-evaluate returned kits, manage rework and scrap, track tooling performance, and maintain accurate inventory records.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings and bills of materials.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Able to interpret and understand results from manual and/or automated testing equipment.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Knowledge of calipers, gages, and other measuring instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Planning levels for Tooling to ensure high availability for Production.
  • Establish Tooling requirements based on established reorder point levels driven by Production requirements.
  • Generate replenishment orders and work with Purchasing to place orders to Suppliers. Schedule orders to effectively manage Tooling spend. Follow up with Purchasing and Suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Receives, unpacks, and stores incoming tools and equipment, and requisitions stock to replenish inventory.
  • Proactively prepare, stage, and verify complete, production-ready kits for Production based on machine schedule. Confirm that kits align with Tool Layouts, BOM’s, and machine schedule.
  • Identify tooling gaps / risks and escalate proactively.
  • Re-evaluates returned kits to determine tools that are re-usable, need rework, or scrap. Coordinate the rework and scrap.
  • Restock kits with reworked, re-usable, and/or new tooling to ensure availability when needed.
  • Track tooling shortages, breakage, and abnormal usage. Capture feedback from Heading production and Toolmakers regarding tool performance. Support corrective actions with Engineering and Suppliers.
  • To ensure accurate inventory balances, maintain records of tools issued and returned.
  • Store tooling in designated areas and ensure that proper inventory levels are maintained.
  • Prepares periodic inventory or maintains perpetual inventory of tools and equipment.
  • Marks and identifies tools as needed to maintain clear identification.
  • Responsible for periodic Cycle Counts.
  • Update metrics and prepare reports for Management as needed. Escalate issues timely to Management.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.
