About The Position

Ventrac, a division of The Toro Company located in Orrville, Ohio, is a premier innovator of equipment for turf and landscape grounds management, sidewalk snow removal, and specialty grounds care maintenance. Ventrac equipment is built for performance and quality, ideal for golf course turf management, sports fields, collegiate campuses, residential and commercial property maintenance, and public green spaces. The Tooling Technician utilizes computer-aided engineering (CAD/CAE) software tools to support the design and build of tooling for the weld department, encompassing both hand welding and robot welding. This role involves close collaboration with Design Engineering, Weld, and Process groups to design, build, and refine fixtures that optimize workflow, ensure weldment accuracy, and improve operator ergonomics.

Requirements

  • Prior understanding precision tooling, from CAD design and engineering to hands-on weld fabrication
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years’ Mig welding experience
  • Understand of basic 3D CAD software design with an understanding of geometry basics in welding and fabrication
  • Base-level proficiency in MIG welding; ability to follow a weld procedure to join components accurately
  • Strong "hands-on" skills with a natural ability to understand how mechanical parts fit together
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, shop drawings, and technical instructions

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years in tooling design or hands on building of tooling and fixtures
  • Capable and accomplished in designing in engineering CAD design system software (e.g., Solid Edge, Solid Works, Creo)

Responsibilities

  • Use CAD software to design tooling for legacy weldments that have become unusable or require updating
  • Partner with weld and process groups to upgrade current tooling, specifically focusing on increasing throughput and improving operator ergonomics
  • High attention to detail, understanding the why’s and how’s of the weldments
  • Work closely with the engineering team to design tooling for upcoming product launches
  • Enter fixtures and parts into company network for ordering and processing
  • Hands-on building and welding of fixtures, ensuring they meet precise tolerances to produce high-quality assembly-ready weldments
  • Work with the team with adaptability and judgment for enhanced fixtures for quality and durability
  • Able to work with flexibility both in design and functionality
