About The Position

The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and calibration of specialized tooling and equipment used in the overhaul and repair of aircraft components. This role ensures that all tooling is operational, accurate, and compliant with aviation standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in Tooling, Aviation Maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Tooling Technician in an aviation MRO environment or a similar role in the aerospace industry.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and specialized aviation maintenance equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of aviation tooling and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and aviation maintenance manuals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of aviation safety standards and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification) are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair aviation-specific tooling, such as jigs, fixtures, and specialized maintenance equipment.
  • Perform routine and emergency repairs on tooling and machinery to ensure minimal downtime and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and calibrations on precision tools and equipment in accordance with aviation standards and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Set up and adjust tooling for various powerplant maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with technical specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and MRO teams to optimize tooling setups and ensure proper functionality for specific maintenance activities.
  • Verify tooling readiness and accuracy before commencing maintenance or repair operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of tooling maintenance, repairs, and calibrations, ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and internal procedures.
  • Document tooling specifications, maintenance histories, and calibration data.
  • Prepare reports on tooling performance, issues, and any corrective actions taken.
  • Ensure that all tooling meets industry standards, quality requirements, and safety regulations.
  • Perform inspections and functional tests on tooling to verify performance and precision.
  • Address and resolve any tooling-related quality issues promptly.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to tooling processes and maintenance procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support the implementation of best practices within the MRO shop.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and aviation regulations while handling tooling and equipment.
  • Ensure all tooling and maintenance activities comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or relevant aviation authority standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to promote safety and efficiency.
  • Work closely with MRO technicians, engineers, and other team members to support maintenance and repair operations.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior technicians and support staff on tooling procedures and best practices.
